Tomorrow sees the opening of "Iron Lady" the much heralded film about Margaret Thatcher for which Meryl Streep has been tipped as a possible Oscar winner. Why should this be causing excitement at Military House? Well, because a little bit of the film came to Exmouth last year when Deb was asked to paint some figurines to match one a Maggie's most treasured possessions - a piece depicting three Royal Marines raised the Union flag at San Carlos, Falkland Islands in 1982. The original piece was by Michael Sutty but the production team had only been able to find one which had been sprayed...

Last week we had a call from a customer who was keen to get a personalised Merchant Navy mug as quickly as possible. We managed to pull out all the stops and were delighted to receive the following email this morning:
"Just to thank you very much indeed. I am pleased to have received the Merchant Navy mug for my Uncle in good time for his birthday tomorrow. I am most appreciative of your efforts. "
No problem Wendy - happy to help!

An army document leaked today suggests that, as a cost cutting measure, cavalry regiments of the British Army are to be merged with the infantry to form a new "combat capability directorate". If this plan goes ahead it will bring to an end many hundreds of years of British military history and tradition.

Royal Tank Regiment
The cavalry regiments currently consist of The Household Cavalry (Life Guards and Blues and Royals), The 1st Queen's Dragoon Guards, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, The Royal Dragoon Guards, The Queen's Royal Hussars, The 9th/12th Royal Lancers, The King's Royal Hussars, The Light Dragoons, The Queen's Royal Lancers...

When I was kid my father had a model of the English Tea Clipper named Thermoplyae, and as I don't recall us sinking it I guess he still has. I didn't expect to be taking pride in creating HMS Thermoplyae shields back then. Funny how things turn out.
Here are few HMS Thermoplyae facts:
1. Only one ship has been commissioned into the Royal Navy with the name of HMS Thermoplyae.
2. The name HMS Thermoplyae was taken from the Battle of Thermoplyae of 480BC.
3. HMS Thermoplyae was a T-class submarine laid down on 26th October 1943.
4. Although obviously ordered for war service...

We are currently working on an HMS Barrosa wall shield for a customer. Here are ten facts about HMS Barrosa:
1. There have been four ships in the Royal Navy with the name of HMS Barrosa. The first was launched in 1813 and the most recent in 1945.
2. The latest HMS Barrosa was a Battle class destroyer built by John Brown and Company, Clydebank.
3. The name HMS Barrosa comes from the Battle of Barrosa which took place on 5 March 1811 during the Peninsular War between an attacking French force and British, Spanish and Portuguese forces.
