The Durham Light Infantry was formed in 1881 and existed until 1968 when it was amalgamated with the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and the King's Shropshire Light Infantry to form The Light Infantry. In 2007 the Light Infantry became part of The Rifles, which is the current regiment in the British Army.
