The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry came into being in 1887 on the renaming of the King's Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regiment). In 1968 the KOYLI was amalgamated with the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and the Durham Light Infantry to form the Light Infantry. In 2007 the Light Infantry became part of the Rifles, which is a current regiment of the British Army.
