The Royal Irish Rangers was formed in 1968 on the amalgamation of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, the Royal Ulster Rifles and the Royal Irish Fusiliers. In 1968 the Royal Irish Rangers was amalgamated with the Ulster Defence Regiment to form the Royal Irish Regiment, which is the current regiment.
