The Royal Lincolnshire Regiment came into being in 1946 on the renaming of the Lincolnshire Regiment, which was formed in 1881. In 1959 the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment amalgamated with the Northamptonshire Regiment to form the 2nd East Anglian Regiment. In 1964 this became part of the Royal Anglian Regiment, which is the current regiment.
