The Royal Norfolk Regiment came into being in 1935 on the renaming of the Norfolk Regiment. In 1959 the Royal Norfolk Regiment amalgamated with the Suffolk Regiment to form the 1st East Anglian Regiment. In 1964 this became part of the Royal Anglian Regiment, which is the current regiment.
