The South Staffordshire Regiment was formed in 1881 on the amalgamation of the 38th and 80th Regiments of Foot. In 1959 the South Staffordshire Regiment amalgamated with the North Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's) to form the Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's). In 2007 the Staffordshire Regiment became part of the Mercian Regiment, which is the current regiment.
