West Yorkshire Regiment, Prince of Wales's Own
The West Yorkshire Regiment was first affiliated to the county of Yorkshire in 1881 on the renaming of the 14th (Prince of Wales's Own) Regiment. Predecessor regiments had been linked to Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. Between 1920 and 1958 the regiment was titled the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own). In 1958 it was amalgamated with the East Yorkshire Regiment to form the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire. In 2006 the PWO Regiment of Yorkshire became part of the Yorkshire Regiment, which is the current regiment of the British Army.
