REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)
The Royal Corp of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (or REME) was formed on 1st October 1942. The role of the REME is to repair and maintain the equipment used by the British Army, a job which has become increasingly complex over the years. Men and women in the REME are specialists in their chosen trade and are responsible for working on certain types of equipment. There are REME units in the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Belize, Cyprus, the Falklands and the Far East, but wherever the British Army go REME units will be present.
