RAF Regiment
The RAF Regiment was created by Royal Warrant of King George VI on 1st February 1942 in response to a need for a unit to protect RAF bases and airfields, a role for which the Army were unable to supply sufficient resources at that time. This defensive role was soon extented to include offensive operations, although the principal role of the RAF Regiment is still to support and protect the Royal Air Force in operations worldwide.
